How to Use This App
A quick guide to understanding what this tool does and how to get the most out of it.
The MBA ROI Calculator is an interactive financial modeling tool built for prospective and current MBA students.
An MBA is a massive financial investment involving high tuition fees, expensive loans, and 2 years of lost income. This tool factors in all of these elements—alongside compound interest, inflation, and post-MBA salaries—to show you exactly when your degree pays for itself and what your net worth will look like 10 years into the future.
Enter your MBA Costs & Funding
Start by inputting your total fees and the loan amount you plan to take. The app will automatically calculate the simple interest accrued during your 2-year study period to determine your starting loan balance at graduation.
Log your Pre-MBA Wealth
Enter any existing investments or cash savings you have right now. The model assumes you will use this money to cover your monthly living expenses during the MBA period while you aren't earning a salary.
Log your Current Job
Enter your current salary, in-hand percentage, and monthly expenses. This generates a "Baseline" trajectory that simulates what your wealth would look like if you simply kept your current job and didn't do an MBA.
Set Market Assumptions
Define what kind of return you expect your investments to generate (MF Return %) and how fast you expect your lifestyle expenses to grow each year (Expense Growth % - known as lifestyle inflation).
Build Career Trajectories
This is the most important step! You can build 3 different potential career outcomes (e.g., Conservative, Moderate, Aggressive). For each one, enter your expected starting CTC, the post-tax in-hand percentage, and how fast you expect your salary to grow annually.
Analyze the Outcomes
As you type, the charts will update in real-time. Look closely at the Opportunity Cost Chart and the Break-Even Year metric—this is the exact year your post-MBA net worth curve permanently surpasses the "No-MBA" baseline curve!
Live URL Sharing: Everything you type is instantly saved to the URL. If you build a specific financial scenario that you want to share with a friend or study group, just click the "🔗 Copy link" button and send it to them!
Exporting Data: If you're a spreadsheet nerd, you can click the "📊 Export CSV" button above the metric cards to download the raw 13-year month-by-month financial data to analyze in Excel.
